At the heart of the Ambient is a base constructed of many layers of wood compressed under high pressure with resin to form "Panzerholz" (or "tank wood"—hey, it's supposed to be bulletproof), a material with warm, neutral, and clear (of course!) sonic properties. This wood/resin laminate is then sandwiched between precision-machined aluminium plates.The platter, supported by an inverted hardened steel shaft with a sintered bronze cap, is constructed of precision-machined, 40 mm thick frosted acrylic.

The separate motor housing, a version of Clearaudio's Syncro mains conditioner and speed regulator, is made of the same materials as the platter base. No need to change speeds manually: you can select 33⅓ and 45 RPM speeds with the touch of a button. A back-lit blue LCD displays your choice of speeds. The superb carbon-fibre version of the gimbal-bearing Satisfy tonearm completes the package.
