Clearaudio is the hi-fi industry's leading proponent of tangential tonearms, which trace the grooves of a record the way the grooves were originally cut - in a straight line. The Clearaudio Master TQ-1 has evolved from the famous Souther TQ-1 tonearm, invented by American Lou Souther in 1980. Since acquiring the Souther company in 1986, Clearaudio has improved and refined the original design, and now manufactures it at its German factory.

The Master TQ-1 is Clearaudio's ultimate "no compromise" approach to a linear tonearm design. Records are cut with a linear system and only linear designs can guaranty adequate error-free reproduction. The Master TQ-I represents the pinnacle in performance of the linear tracking arm design. It incorporates some completely new designs, which include a Quartz armwand and Quartz shafts for the arm carriage bearings to roll on. The Master TQ-I truly represents the reference in musical reproduction.
